General Information

INTRODUCTION:

The National Fly Fishing Championship to be held in Colorado during October of 2007 constitutes the final round of the regional competitions held across the United States.  Fifteen of the competitors will be chosen by the coaching staff of Team USA to represent the United States in an 2008 Olympic style event in New Zealand. This program is sponsored by Colorado Trout Unlimited and the associated Colorado Trout Unlimited chapters in the State of Colorado. In addition, donations are received from public and private sources.

The program includes
-- 2 five member teams from each of the 4 regional events
-- 3 teams from Team USA
-- 3 or more international teams

This translates into 70 to 80 contestants that will compete over a three day period (October 3 to October 5, 2007) in five different fishing locations.  There will be a number of special events & programs culminated by a medal awards ceremony.

This event is organized by The Colorado Steering Committee, a group of volunteers from Colorado Trout Unlimited, with the assistance and support of various federal, state, and local agencies. The objectives event include

  • Enhancement of Colorado fisheries through support for Colorado Trout Unlimited.
  • Support for Fly Fishing Team USA and its participation in International events carried out in the Olympic tradition.
  • The promotion of fishing, conservation ethics, and public awarness on environmental issues pertinent to Colorado fisheries.
  • Generate interest and enthusiasm for fishing amoung youth.
  • Create learning and training opportunity for individuals of all ages that currently participate or would like to participate in the sport of fly fishing.

LOCATION:

The 2007 Colorado headquarters will be in Boulder, Colorado

FISHING VENUES

There will be 2 lakes and 3 streams chosen by the Steering Committee as competition waters. Flights (group assignment) and beats will be determined by a random drawing conducted one week prior top the event.
